Misdiagnosis .... ADD or Depression?
by Judie Gade.
This
article was written after I "came out of the ADD closet" on A Current
Affair in Feb. 2001. Is there any other way than Prime Time?
I still
receive calls today from people getting the courage up to ask
questions and ask for help. The results were pretty astounding &
invoked many questions of our government and family health care
professionals. Doctors ..... Mothers can be ADHD too!
Helping The Student With Attention Problems
by Judie Gade. This was originally written to help teachers
recognise the effects on students that their attitude has.
Classroom Strategies
Reworded from
some strategies by Dr. Rick Jarman & by Judie Gade. Rick Jarman
is based at the Royal Children's Hospital. His strategies were
reworded, and added to, for schools in the form of a flyer.
International Consensus Statement on ADHD
by Professor Russell A. Barkley PhD, Depts. Of Psychiatry and Neurology
University of Massachusetts Medical School & 84 other world renowned
experts. This was put out as a rebuttal
to all the misinformation generated by the media and certain groups
intent on destroying the good being done by support groups in the USA.
Sceptics read this please! If you have any doubts, this document will
reverse your opinion.
It's Okay To Be Different .. ADHD in Teens
by Judie Gade. This one is great
to give parents having a hard time understanding their teenage ADDlet!
Also good for the kids to read as well as it can help them understand
themselves.
A Brain in the Rain
by Dr. Ned Hallowell. This is a lovely
story explaining to children
about brain differences. There is also a discussion guide included for
the classroom (the link is at the end of the poem)! This is a
wonderful way to explain differences in people to children in a
poem/story format.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Ned Talks to Teens
by Dr. Ned Hallowell.
This
article could change the life of a child you know. It explains mental
health issues to teenagers in a way they can understand. Who better
to explain to teens than a Professor of Psychiatry, at Harvard
University no less, a person that teaches other doctors
about mental health issues, to explain problems like learning
disabilities, anxiety & depression to teens?
Personally,
I think it should be given to all kids starting high school in their
orientation packs.
This is definitely one
article that should be kept on file.

Disabled Child

Re-published with the kind permission of Linda. Questions and Answers about Resilience

important.
Perspectives On Discipline: Does Spanking Really
Have A Role?
PART 1 By Dr. Robert Brooks. Here
the doctor takes the confusion about effective disciplinary measures..
With all the different opinions around today, is it any wonder that
parents are as confused as the kids about which direction to take?
Often specialists take contradictory views to one another ... time out
...... deprivation ..... ignore..... tough love ..... which way is
best???
Perspectives on Discipline: The Power of Prevention
PART 2
By Dr.
Robert Brooks.
Here
the kind doctor discusses more effective ways of helping children
learn right from wrong and developing a social conscience.
ADHD Australian Facts
This is a summary of an Australian Federal Government document
plus other facts compiled from specialists both here and overseas.
Data figures are all Australian figures. A comprehensive pdf file on
the Mental Health of our Youth that this information came from, is
available on request. These facts gives rise to the potential danger

Resources/Accommodations available on College
campuses for students with ADHD
by best
selling author Michele Novotni, Ph.D.
Although this is based on USA criteria
it is still very much worth a read. If you can pick up just one idea
to help in your college or university it is worth it!
Teacher Knowledge of ADHD - A study
by
David Rabiner PhD, Senior Research Scientist at Duke University.
Although based on a relatively small number of teachers, it is
interesting to note. In Australia the situation seems to be very
similar regarding the overall lack of knowledge and/or the
forcing of personal opinions over medical fact. Reprinted with
permission.
Behaviour Management or Management Behaviour?
by
Dr Brenton Prosser BA (Hons), GDE, PhD, AACE. A sociological study of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD) in Australian and American secondary schools.
Insightful!
